Promoting Equality in the Gaming World

Recently, our P&C Operations Manager, Sara Davidsson, led a workshop at Save the Children’s Nordic Safe Digital Childhood Conference held in Sweden. The session focused on strategies to create a safer and more equitable gaming environment, particularly for girls.

The workshop highlighted the persistent gender inequality within the gaming industry. Women and girls often face exclusion, disrespect, and limited opportunities compared to their male counterparts.

To address these issues, the following key recommendations were discussed:

• Inclusive Game Design: Prioritize games that foster teamwork and collaboration.
• Welcoming Communities: Cultivate inclusive gaming communities.
• Female Role Models: Increase visibility of women in gaming, e-sports, marketing, and industry leadership
• Education and Awareness: Educate young men about respectful behavior and challenge toxic norms both online and offline.
  

Additional solutions explored include implementing robust reporting systems for harassment and toxicity, developing safer communication tools, and encouraging investment in inclusive game development.

By adopting these strategies, we can work towards a more equitable and positive future for the gaming industry.
